No compromise on Kashmir: Vajpayee

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday said that Kashmir is an integral part of India and that there is no question of any compromise on that count.

Speaking at a press conference in Bombay immediately after being discharged from the Breach Candy hospital, where he underwent a knee replacement operation, Vajpayee said he would call an all-party meeting soon to discuss his forthcoming summit with Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf.

He said the decision to invite the general for talks was taken after closely watching the ground situation in Kashmir. "There has been relative peace on the Line of Control. We see it as a positive signal." But adding a defiant note, the prime minister said the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir would form an integral part of his agenda when he sits across the table with Musharraf.

The prime minister was operated upon his right knee at the Breach Candy hospital on June 7 by the US-based surgeon Chittaranjan Ranawat.

The prime minister is likely to resume his official engagements from Thursday.
