Musharraf stresses need for flexibility

General Pervez Musharraf said that he will go into talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with a flexible and open mind.

In an interview to a leading Pakistani magazine, the general said that the key issue on the agenda would be Kashmir, and that it was necessary for both sides to be flexible.

"Talks make headway, and solutions become possible, only when the two sides are prepared to discuss their stated positions with an open mind," General Musharraf said.

Musharraf also conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Vajpayee ahead of his impending knee surgery.

Vajpayee arrives in Bombay on Wednesday afternoon, for an operation on his right knee.
