No truce if confined to Nagaland, threatens NSCN (I-M)

As a fresh spell of ceasefire goes into force in Nagaland on Wednesday, the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (I-M) on Tuesday night asserted it would not accept the truce if it was confined only to Nagaland and charged the Centre with 'twisting and unilaterally reviewing' the Bangkok agreement, which had extended the peace process beyond Nagaland.

"Confining the ceasefire to Nagaland is not acceptable to the collective leadership (of the NSCN-IM)," the chief of the NSCN (I-M)'s ceasefire monitoring cell in Nagaland Puthing Shingrem told Star News.

When pointed out that this would mean that the peace process in Nagaland goes back to square one, he said "If the Government of India decides to unilaterally sabotage the peace process, we have no say on this."

The NSCN (I-M) Steering Committee, the highest policy-making body of the outfit, charged in a statement that Centre had 'twisted and unilaterally reviewed' the bilateral Bangkok agreement of June 14.
