Musharraf gets pesky reporter transferred

Chief reporter of a leading Urdu daily has been shifted to the editorial desk allegedly at the behest of Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf's media managers, after he asked a question which was apparently not liked by the military ruler at Friday's press conference in Islamabad.

The reporter had asked Musharraf whether he thought an elected ruler would have been more successful at the Agra summit. He also cited examples of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, who ended their summits with Indian leaders by signing agreements.

Musharraf clearly appeared rattled by the question and began his reply by saying: "You must be joking."

Daily Dawn said the reporter was removed on Friday night itself, immediately after the internationally televised press conference, allegedly at the instance of the president's media managers.
