Monument to love overwhelms general

President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan, who spent two days at the luxurious Amar Vilas Hotel in Agra, said he and his wife Begum Sehba "will never forget the magnificent view of the Taj Mahal" from the rooms of their Kohinoor presidential suite.

"May our stay here augur well for future relations between Pakistan and India," General Musharraf wrote in the hotel's visitors' book.

"This beautiful and magnificent hotel has been a witness to the unfolding historical events," he wrote while leaving behind his impressions of the last two days when he held long discussions with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Obviously enchanted by the architectural splendour of the hotel overlooking the Taj Mahal, the general said, "I appreciate the warmth, hospitality and efficiency of the entire hotel staff."

The presidential suite, where every room, including the luxurious bathroom, overlooks the Taj, which is just 600 metres away, has flooring of expensive Burma teak, glass wash basins and gold-plated arches and a private balcony facing the temple of love.
