Musharraf calls off Ajmer visit

President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan has called off his visit to the dargah of the Sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, at Ajmer because of the summit meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Agra getting extended well beyond lunch on Monday.

After a one-on-one meeting with Vajpayee in the morning failed to resolve the deadlock between the two sides, Musharraf and Vajpayee decided to continue their talks after lunch.

But after lunch, the meeting went on for almost two hours, as a result of which the president of Pakistan could not leave for Ajmer even at 1600 IST, which was the rescheduled time of departure.

After he missed the second deadline, the president called off the visit and decided to leave for home after the summit. He is likely to fly back to Delhi and board the flight to Islamabad from the capital.

Meanwhile, Vajpayee is likely to address a press conference in the evening after the joint declaration of the summit is made. But it is not yet clear whether he will address the press jointly with General Musharraf.
