POK leaders back Musharraf

Two prominent leaders of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir demanded the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir, even as the summit meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf got underway in Agra on Sunday.

Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan and Sultan Mahmood supported Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's India visit and his efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute in talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Mahmood, prime minister of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, said the Agra summit was "the golden chance to succeed in peace-establishing efforts", and added that a Kashmir solution alone could guarantee regional peace and prosperity.

Qayyum Khan, former prime minister and chief of the Muslim Conference that has just won the local elections, told news agencies that "He (Musharraf) is working for resolution of the Kashmir issue, and is sure to come up with results."

Khan asserted said his party would not accept anything less than accession to Pakistan. "We have a principled stand on the issue and want accomplishment of the goal," he said, and added: "Jihad would not be stopped until freedom is achieved."

At the same time he said, "Any decision made by him (Musharraf) for resolution of the Kashmir dispute would be accepted and acknowledged by my party."
