Pak Army endorses Musharraf's India visit

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday secured an endorsement for his India visit from corps commanders and other senior officials of the Pakistan Army.

Musharraf on Thursday wound up his series of consultative meetings with various walks of Pakistan society with a meeting of his corps commanders and principle staff officers of the Pakistan army, which virtually formed a policy body for his military government, official sources, said.

In Thursday's meeting, Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar and Foreign Secretary Inamul Haq briefed the army officers about the preparations for Musharraf's three-day visit to India beginning from July 14.

The participants fully endorsed the efforts of the President to bring peace and stability to the sub-continent and South Asia by addressing and trying to resolve the Kashmir dispute, an official release said.

The corps commanders were unanimous in their view that if India sincerely wanted to resolve the Kashmir dispute, genuine progress could be achieved through talks, it said.

Musharraf on Wednesday secured a similar endorsement from the National Security Council, comprising of service chiefs and appointed governors of four provinces.
