Naqvi not to attend tea party if Pak invites Hurriyat

Bharatiya Janata Party National Secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday said he would not attend the tea party to be hosted by Pakistan High Commissioner for President Pervez Musharraf if Hurriyat Conference leaders were invited for it.

"If officially Hurriyat attends the tea party hosted by the Pakistan High Commissioner, then I will not attend it," he said.

He said it was not appropriate to involve the Hurriyat or any other organisation from Jammu and Kashmir in the summit at this stage, as this would obstruct the peace process.

"Every Indian is sentimentally attached to Kashmir and any third party interference in the matter would not be tolerated," Naqvi said adding that parties like Hurriyat can discuss the matter with the Centre's interlocutor K C Pant.

He said Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been making honest efforts to resolve all Indo-Pak issues and there have been positive signals from the other side.

Naqvi was hopeful that the Agra Summit would be successful and would help in further strengthening the economic, social and cultural ties.
