Karunanidhi to boycott Raman's inquiry

N Sathiya Moorthy in Madras

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi has announced that he will boycott the Justice A Raman Commission of Inquiry appointed by the state government to probe charges of police high-handedness during his arrest on June 30.

He spoke to reporters briefly while being wheeled out of the Apollo hospital after being discharged on Monday.

The former chief minister had been admitted to the hospital for a checkup after his release from prison last week. He looked to be in better health on Monday than last week.

The commission's terms of reference include the incidents leading to the arrest of Union ministers Murasoli Maran and T R Baalu, which did not form part of the Centre's directive to the state government on the subject.
