Thackeray opposes Jinnah House as Pak consulate

Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray on Monday opposed Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's suggestion that Jinnah House in Bombay be used as Pakistan consulate.

"Tomorrow, they (Pakistanis) may ask for Taj Mahal or Qutub Minar," Thackeray said.

He was addressing mediapersons after meeting Union Minister for State Syed Shanawaz Hussain at his residence in suburban Bandra.

The Sena chief's statement came when his attention was drawn to Musharraf's recent request in an interview to an English daily that Jinnah House, located in Bombay's posh locality of Malabar Hill, be allowed to be used as Pakistan consulate.

Thackeray also expressed his unhappiness over Musharraf's proposed meeting with the leaders of the Hurriyat Conference.

He also said that he would oppose the proposal to grant concessions to Haj pilgrims. Thackeray also lamented that no action was being taken against the Bangladeshi immigrants staying in India without proper documents.

"Around 200000 Bangladeshis are staying in Bombay putting severe burden on civic amenities but nobody is doing anything against it, " he said.
