Baalu wants security for Judge

Union Minister for Environment T R Baalu on Friday night spoke to Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and urged him to ensure that security be provided to Principal Sessions Judge Ashoke Kumar in Madras.

He said that the judge had received threats in the wake of severe strictures passed by him against the police in the 'Flyover Scam'.

Baalu contacted Advani and the Tamil Nadu Governor C Rangarajan to convey the alleged threats received by the judge.

Stones were also thrown at his residence, he added. Both of them assured him that steps would be taken to protect the judge, who had been unsparing in his criticism of the way the police treated former chief minister M Karunanidhi during the arrest on Saturday.

On Wednesday the judge escaped unhurt when his car was hit by another vehicle when he was on his way home.
