Cong disapproves of Musharraf's
plan to meet Hurriyat

The Congress on Friday disapproved of Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's plan to meet Hurriyat Conference leaders during his India visit later this month.

"In principle we have maintained that the summit is a bilateral meeting. There is no room for making it a tri-partite matter," party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters in New Delhi.

Sharma was critical of the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in taking the opposition into confidence on the summit.

"While Musharraf is inviting academics, intellectuals and leaders in Pakistan to ascertain their opinion on Indo-Pak ties, this (NDA) government and Prime Minister (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee have not consulted the opposition parties on the matter until now," he said.
