PML to resist any deal on Kashmir

The Pakistan Muslim League termed as 'downright lie' President Musharraf's allegation that Kashmir was included in the 1999 Lahore declaration at his insistence.

The party has also threatened to launch an agitation if the Pakistani president compromised Kashmiri's interest during his talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"We have checked the records and discussed with the then Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz and others, it was downright lie to say that Nawaz Sharif did not insist on inserting Kashmir in the document," acting president of PML Javed Hashmi said.

In a number of interviews Musharraf has gone on record that he found that the Kashmir issue was not included in the initial drafts of the Lahore Declaration signed by Sharif and Vajpayee during latter's visit to Lahore in February 1999.

PML Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq said the party would launch an agitation if Pakistan's security interests or the interests of people of Jammu and Kashmir are compromised at the Indo-Pak summit beginning July 14.

"We have a concern about statements like going into dialogue with India with an open mind or changing the history," he said.
