Crucial Hurriyat meet on Thursday

A crucial meeting of the Hurriyat Conference Executive Council will be held in Srinagar on Thursday amid indications that the amalgam has received a positive response to its communication seeking meetings with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf.

Hurriyat sources said that the meeting has been convened following 'positive signals' received by Hurriyat Chairman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat to his communication.

Although the sources refused to give details, it is learnt that the Hurriyat chairman received a communication from the Pakistan Embassy on Wednesday.

However, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat was not available for comment as he reportedly left for his Watlab hometown soon after he received the communication.

Prof Bhat said Tuesday said that he was confident of receiving a positive response from India and Pakistan and added that the executive council would meet after receiving replies from the two governments.
