Hurriyat demand to meet Musharraf a 'non-issue': India

A day after Pakistan agreed not to press for a meeting between President Pervez Musharraf and Hurriyat Conference leaders during his July 14-16 visit, India on Monday stuck to its stand that this was a "non-issue".

"This always was a non-issue and continues to be so," an external affairs ministry spokesman said when asked about the demand made earlier for such a meeting and Pakistan agreeing to New Delhi's request not to insist on it.

Pakistani officials had on Sunday confirmed media reports that it was no longer pushing for a meeting between Hurriyat leaders and Musharraf during the visit to India. "The proposition not to invite Hurriyat leaders has been made to us by India and we have accepted it," they said adding the focus at the moment was the summit.
