Sonia arrives at the Kumbh Mela

Undeterred by the Kumbh Mela administration's inability to provide her the adequate security cover, Congress President Sonia Gandhi arrived in Kumbh Nagri Monday afternoon.

Police control room said Gandhi on her arrival went to the Gandhi ancestral home Swaraj Bhawan, where she will stay the night.

The Mela administration had Sunday expressed its inability to provide adequate security cover to Gandhi.

Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Sharma had said that Gandhi's staff had been informed of the ''factual'' position on the shortage of security personnel. "In case of Gandhi, a VVIP with the highest Z-plus security, it had been made amply clear that it would not be possible for the police administration to ensure adequate number of police personnel for her,'' he had said

However, DIG (Allahabad Range) S K Garg told UNI that keeping in view the VVIP status of Gandhi, the administration has decided to do its best to ensure her safety.

Besides paying her obeisance at the Saraswati Ghat, the Congress supremo will visit the camps of Shankaracharya of Dwarka and Jyotish peeths Swami Swaroopananda and Satpalji Maharaj and Congress Sewa Dal in the Kumbh Mela area.

Gandhi will leave for Delhi Tuesday morning, sources said.
