PM discusses temple
issue with Mutt head

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee held informal discussions with the head of the Pejawar Mutt (religious seat), Sri Vishvateertha Swamiji, on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue in Udupi on Thursday night.

The swami told UNI Friday that the prime minister had discussions with him after dinner.

Declining to divulge details, he said they also discussed several other national issues.

The swami said that he urged Vajpayee to stop pipeline work in the western ghats by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, as it would create ecological problems due to deforestation.

The prime minister gave a patient hearing and assured consideration of the demands, he said.

Vajpayee was in the historic temple town on a two-day visit, when he inaugurated the Rajangna auditorium of the Sri Krishna temple.
