BJP legislator vacates seat for Congressman Jogi

The Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a major setback in the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh when as its legislator from Bilaspur, Ramdayal Uikye, resigned seat and paved the way for the Congress Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi, to contest the by-election.

Jogi is still not a member of the Chhattisgarh assembly.

Interestingly, Uikye had disappeared since the last two days, and BJP leaders from Chhattisgarh had demonstrated in front of the CM's house demanding that their MLA be produced immediately. They also alleged that he had been kidnapped and was being pressurised to resign his seat.

Jogi retorted that he did not know the whereabouts of Uikye, and since there were many MLAs who were willing to vacate their seat for him, he will decide about where he would contest in a week's time.

Meanwhile, the speaker, Rajendra Prasad Shukla, has accepted Uikye's resignation.

This is the second setback for the BJP in Chhattisgarh in recent times. Only last month, local party leaders had clashed over the state leadership issue.
