Musharraf speaks to
Vajpayee on quake: PTI

In the first contact since the October 1999 coup in Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf Friday spoke to Prime Minister Atal Bihari and conveyed his sympathy over the great loss of lives and devastation caused by the earthquake in Gujarat.

Musharraf telephoned Vajpayee, who thanked him for his country's assistance to the quake victims, saying this gesture was greatly appreciated by people in India.

During the five-minute telephonic conversation in Hindustani, the prime minister assured Musharraf of India's continuing desire to build a good neighbourly relationship with Pakistan.

Pakistan had sent two plane-loads of relief material, like blankets and medicines, to the quake victims.
