Four persons - two civilians and two constables - were injured in a surprise attack by the outlawed People's War Group of Naxalites on the Hanamkonda town police station in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday night.
According to state police sources, the incident occurred around 2000 hours (IST). Hanamkonda is about 160 kms north-east of the state capital Hyderabad.
The Naxalites, who came from the side of the Kakatiya University Distance Learning Centre, blasted the common wall between the centre and the police station with landmines and entered the premises.
Four persons - two civilians and two police constables - sustained injuries while Circle Inspector Ghulam Samdani, who was in his room, had a miraculous escape, police sources said.
After recovering from the surprise, the policemen fought back and opened fire on the Naxalites who failed to breach two inner tiers of the three-tiered security around the police station.
