Putti Lal, in his petition, claimed that he married Phoolan Devi in 1972 under the Hindu law and was never divorced lawfully.
He claimed to be the lawful husband of Phoolan Devi and pleaded to be declared as legal heir and successor to her entire property, valued at over Rs 50 million, which he alleged the defendants were trying to grab.
The civil judge of Kanpur Dehat (rural) court admitted the suit on Thursday and issued notices to Phoolan's second husband Ummed Singh, Mula Devi and Munni Devi, mother and sister of the former bandit queen, and her brother.
The case will come up for hearing on September 11.
