Motivated by religion, Pak army is best: Musharraf

Pakistan's army is the best in the world, thanks to its religious motivation, President Pervez Musharraf said on Monday.

Taking part in a BBC discussion, he said: "The Pakistan Army ranks number one in the world on the basis of equipment, strength, strategy and the minimum deterrence policy."

He said it was "fully capable of guarding our borders".

"We have fought three wars (with India), and we are fully prepared to safeguard the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan."

Musharraf said, "Pakistani soldiers and officers are moulded by religion, which gives them the internal strength to defeat their enemies."

"The Pakistan Army is superior because it chooses the best boys. With respect to training, we are second to none. Our training institutions are very superior."

"We have adopted a minimum deterrent strategy because we must limit the level of our forces to the level of expenditure," he said
