Slain MP Phoolan Devi' s husband Umed Singh, who till recently was denying having any political ambition, made a complete turnaround on Thursday and said that to fulfil Phoolan's dreams he would have to enter politics.
"I cannot fulfil Phoolan's dreams without entering the political arena. I am anyway a political person and have even fought an election," Umed Singh told rediff.com.
Soon after Phoolan Devi's murder when Umed Singh was asked whether he would contest elections from her constituency Mirzapur, he had denied any such plans.
However, he is not yet ready to reveal his plans. "I would not like to talk about these things before the 13th-day ceremony of my beloved wife," he said.
Umed emphasised that there was a political conspiracy behind Phoolan's murder.
Asked whether Phoolan was planning to switch parties, Umed Singh refused to comment. But he promised to tell everything after August 6.
Whatever Umed might have to tell after Phoolan's 13th day ceremony, there are clear indications that he is eyeing Phoolan's constituency Mirzapur for his foray into politics.
"I want to use the money Phoolan has left behind to open primary schools in Mirzapur. I will also erect a statue of Phoolan to immortalise her memory."
