Injured jawans yet to be questioned

The two injured Border Security Force jawans who were returned to India by Bangladesh Rifles on Sunday night are undergoing treatment, and have not yet been questioned on the methods of torture leading to their injury and killing of 16 of their colleagues by the BDR on Wednesday last, according to R C Silkoti, commandant, BSF headquarters, Shillong.

The two injured jawans, Akshay Kumar and Bimal Kumar, admitted at the Battalion Hospital in Meghalaya's Tura, "are now under medical care and their questioning has not yet started as they are now being made to feel comfortable", Silkoti told PTI over phone from Shillong.

To a query, Silkoti said they are likely to be shifted for better medical facilities but the hospital and place are yet to be decided.

"They have blunt injuries on several parts of their bodies but their eyes are all right," he added.

On Sunday night, the two injured jawans and the body of slain BSF havildar Dhyan Chand were handed over to senior BSF officials by the BDR at Mahendragunj in Meghalaya along the Indo-Bangla border from where they were brought to Tura.

The slain BSF jawan, Havildar Dhyan Chand, will be cremated later in the day at the 118 BSF Battalion grounds at Tura with full military honours, Silkoti said.
