SC to hear TADA detenus case on TuesdayBy Our Correspondent in Madras The Supreme Court is going to hear the case of the 131 Terrorist And Disruptive Activities detenus on Tuesday. Their release was one of the demands put forward by Veerappan in exchange for the release of Kannada film star Dr Rajakumar. The apex court had given a stay on the release of these detenus on September 1 after Abdul Karim, a retired deputy superintendent of police and father of slain sub-inspector Shakeel Ahmed, filed a petition pleading against the release of these TADA detenus. Shakeel Ahmed and other police officers were slain by sandalwood smuggler Veerappan on August 14, 1992. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief minister M Karunanidhi said that R R Gopal will leave for the jungle in a day or two for further negotiations after the court's judgement. The chief ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had stated that they are going to wait for the final verdict of the Supreme Court on the release of the 131 TADA detenus. "We are going to wait for the final verdict of the Supreme Court. Till then, no further action will be taken in this matter," they told reporters after a meeting on September 8. Veerappan had kidnapped Dr Rajakumar on July 29 from his native village of Gajanur in Tamil Nadu. ALSO SEE
