Task force to implement Srikrishna reportThe Maharashtra Government has set up a 10-member special task force to implement recommendations of the Srikrishna commission. Justice B N Srikrishna probed into the December 1992 and January 1993 communal riots in the city and the subsequent serial bomb blasts in March 12, 1993. The decision to set up the 10-member task force was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who also holds the home portfolio, on Thursday. The decision was taken after the Supreme Court on July 21 asked the Maharashtara Government to file an affidavit on action taken on the report's recommendations. The case in the apex court will be heard this week. According to official sources, the force will be headed by a police officer of the rank of addtional commisisoner of police and below him, there will be two deputy police commissioners, three assistant commissioners and four senior police inspectors. The Srikrishna commission was set up by the Congress government on January 25, 1993, but when the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance government came to power in the state, it was scrapped on January 23, 1995. However, when the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre, the commission was reconstituted on May 28, 1996. Justice Srikrishna had submitted his report in 1998, but the Sena-BJP government led by former chief minister Manohar Joshi rejected his findings. UNI
