Manohar Parrikar sworn in as Goa CM

A 14-member Bharatiya Janata Party-Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party coalition government, headed by BJP's Manohar Parrikar, was sworn in at a function at the Raj Bhavan in Panjim on Tuesday evening.

Goa Governor Mohammad Fazal administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and his 13 cabinet colleagues.

Others who were also sworn in as ministers are Ravi Naik, Ramakant Khalap, Digambar Kamat, Sheikh Hassan Harron, Prakash Velip, Pandurang Raut, Dr Suresh Amonkar, Sanjay Bandekar, Prakash Phadte, Manohar Babu Azgaokar, Filip Neri Rodrigues, Jose Philip D'Souza and Ramrao Desai.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shripad Yesho Naik, outgoing chief minister Francisco Sardinha, assembly Speaker Pratapsinh Rane, Deputy Speaker Ulhas Asnodkar, senior administrative and police officials were among those present.

Earlier in the day, Francisco Sardinha tendered his resignation a few hours before a special session of the state assembly to take up the confidence vote. Later, the governor revoked the summons to convene the special session.

Subsequently, the governor invited Manohar Parrikar to form a government as the group led by him enjoyed the support of two MGP legislators and one member of the Indian National Congress (Sheikh Hassan), besides 18 members of the BJP.
