A separate homeland for the Tamils holds tremendous attraction for the Dravidian parties and Tamil extremists. That dreamland is to be carved out of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil-speaking areas of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Sri Lanka. Tamil would be the only language there. And Tamil nationalism, the only cause. The proponents of this concept had been in hibernation for some years now. But the divisive, parochial movements that seem to be gaining ground in Tamil Nadu have rejuvenated them.
