Shiv Sena members to attend Parliament

The Shiv Sena today decided to take part in the proceedings of Parliament. However, the party is still angry over Centre's ''inadequate'' response to Maharashtra government's decision to prosecute its party chief Bal Thackeray and would decide the future course of action depending on the developments in Bombay.

Sena's parliamentary party leader Anant Gite told reporters that the party MPs would be meeting daily to review the situation.

Sena, which has 15 members in the Lok Sabha and five in the Rajya sabha, earlier in the day announced boycott of the parliamentary party meeting of the National Democratic Alliance scheduled this evening saying it was "unfortunate" that the ruling alliance partners had not supported them on the Thackeray issue.

The BJP, however, announced cancellation of the meeting saying Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was having throat infection.

"The government has to run with the support of the alliance partners and if they did not support each other in times of crisis, then what is the point," he asked, and said his party had sought "timely intervention" by the prime minister on the issue.
