Situation in Bombay peacefulThe situation in Bombay, which was gripped by tension on Wednesday in anticipation of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's arrest, was peaceful on Thursday, official sources said. Except for a case of attempted arson, in which a mob tried to set afire a BEST bus at Kherwadi in north-west Bombay on Wednesday night, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the city or the state, police said. Shopkeepers in many parts of the city had downed their shutters due to stray incidents of stone pelting on Wednesday. The tension was put to rest by city Police Commissioner M N Singh through a message broadcast on AIR, Mumbai. However, a meeting of Sena officials met on Wednesday night and resolved to give a "befitting response" to any move to arrest Thackeray, Sena sources said. A Sena spokesman told PTI on Thursday morning that Thackeray would not seek any type of bail in the event of his arrest under section 153(A) IPC. "We are also seeking legal opinion of whether the prosecution , sanctioned by the state government, falls within the scope of 153 (A) of the IPC," he added.
