Court reserves order on Dara's police custody

E-Mail this report to a friend

Orissa high court on Wednesday reserved its order till Friday on the state CID's petition seeking police remand of Dara Singh for interrogation.

Justice C R Pal reserved his order after hearing senior government advocate Surjya Mishra for the second consecutive day.

Challenging the Karanjia sub-divisional judicial magistrate's order of remanding Dara Singh, the prime accused in the murders of missionary Graham Staines, his two sons and Muslim trader Sheikh Rehman, to judicial custody after his arrest on January 31, the government counsel argued that the trial court had not taken into consideration several legal points.

He said as Dara was believed to be involved in several crimes, his interrogation in police custody was necessary to elicit more material evidence with a view to filing a supplementary charge-sheet.

The judge, however, turned down the prayer of advocate Kiron Rout to allow her a couple of days' time to plead the case of Dara Singh.
