Mahanta to seek more central forces

Referring to Thursday night's massacre by suspected ULFA activists in remote Sunpura forest in Assam's Tinsukia district in which 28 persons were killed, the chief minister said, "I think ULFA is being aided by ISI to carry out strikes against the Hindi-speaking people."

He said all steps were being taken to hunt down the killers.

Before leaving for Delhi to meet Union Home Minister L K Advani, Mahanta said he would demand more central paramilitary forces to contain the violence in the state.

"I will hold consultations with Home Minister L K Advani on the present situation and ask for more forces," he said.

With the latest killing, 97 Hindi-speaking people have died at the hands of suspected ULFA and NDFB militants since October 21 in eight strikes.
