Positive response from Veerappan by Wednesday: PTIKarnataka hopes to get a positive response by Wednesday from forest bandit Veerappan on the release of abducted Kannada thespian Dr Rajakumar and three others, Home Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge said on Tuesday in Bangalore. He told reporters, ''There is so much progress and I hope something will come through official emissary R R Gopal.'' Kharge said the state government had information that Gopal has established contact with Veerappan. He said, ''Right now, we are in the right direction.'' Kharge said the government had no information on retired police official Abdul Kareem filing a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the state's decision to drop Terrorist And Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act cases against 51 suspected associates of the bandit, the proceedings of which were in progress at a Mysore court. Kareem, father of a police sub-inspector killed in an ambush by Veerappan, had filed objections against the government decision but the disignated court in Mysore had allowed the special public prosecutor's plea to drop TADA charges against them. He, however, said the government had alerted its advocates in New Delhi and has filed a caveat in the high court. Meanwhile, the hostage crisis entered the 23rd day.
