Gopal to leave after I-Day: PTINakkeeran editor R R Gopal will once again set out for the jungles later this week to meet bandit Veerappan in a bid to secure the release of Kannada filmstar Dr Rajakumar and three others held hostage by the outlaw since July 30. Jouralist-emissary R R Gopal, who returned only on August 11 with the second set of demands from the forest brigand, would leave on his second mission on August 16 or 17, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said in Madras on Sunday. Gopal had a 90-minute confabulation with Karunanidhi at the Secretariat to discuss the modalities of his second visit. It was apparent that he was briefed on the views of the TN and Karnataka governments and their decisions on the fresh demands raised by Veerappan. 'We discussed details of his mission. He will leave a day or two after Independence Day,' Karunanidhi told mediapersons. He was hopeful that the crisis triggered by Dr Rajakumar's abduction would end soon after Gopal's second visit. Gopal was accompanied by Nakkeeran's Associate Editor A Kamaraj during the discussions. He sped away without talking to waiting mediapersons.
