VHP extends conditional support to Pope's visitVishwa Hindu Parishad joint general secretary Sadanand Kakade today extended "conditional support" to the visit of Pope John Paul-II to India in the first week of November. Stating that the VHP was only happy to welcome the head of the Catholic church to India, Kakade, however, put forward three conditions in a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He demanded that the Pope abstain from the religious conference involving heads of different Christian churches in India and a ban be imposed on mass conversions by the Christians. The memorandum was signed by 50 office-bearers of the VHP. UNI
