HC serves notices on Centre, Orissa over storm reliefA division bench of the Orissa high court has issued notices to the Central and state governments on a public interest litigation seeking an inquiry into the alleged corruption and irregularities in the distribution of relief materials for the super cyclone-ravaged districts in the state. The petition, filed by 32-year-old Rajesh Mohanty of Arilo village in Jagatsinghpur district, also demanded a status report on relief and rehabilitation measures taken in the affected areas. It alleged that though relief materials worth millions of rupees had reached the state from all parts of the country and abroad, millions of victims were deprived of these things due to mismanagement, corruption and looting by the officials. The two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Biswanath Agrawal and Justice R K Patra after preliminary hearing on Friday directed the respondents to file their counters within three weeks. UNI
