Crucial AICC session on May 25An All India Congress Committee session has been called on May 25 to persuade Sonia Gandhi to withdraw her resignation as Congress president, senior party leader K Vijayabhaskar Reddy has said. Reddy was addressing the media yesterday after a meeting of the Congress Working Committee. The meeting was held to decide the AICC session date. Sources said the session would not take up the CWC's decision to expel the three dissident leaders -- Sharad Pawar, Purno A Sangma and Tariq Anwar -- from the the party as the AICC ratification is not required under the party constitution. The session is expected to bring pressure on Sonia to review her decision in the larger interests of the party. In case she persists with her decision, the session would have to think of alternative arrangements in view of the forthcoming general elections. Congress spokesman Ajit Jogi said the session would begin at 1100 hours at the Talkatora stadium in New Delhi. Jogi refused to divulge any further information with regard to yesterday's CWC meeting.
