CWC fails to convince Sonia
Sonia Gandhi has refused to reconsider her decision on quitting as Congress president even after three hours of intense persuasion by Congress Working Committee members, party chief ministers and senior leaders. The leaders met Sonia yesterday at her residence from 2130 hours to 0030 hours. They called on her in separate delegations, but could not convince her to change her mind, according to Congress general secretary R K Dhawan and party spokesperson Ajit Jogi. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Sharad Pawar has said that the letter written by him and two other Congress Working Committee members did not ask for the resignation of Sonia as party president. In a telephonic reaction, Pawar told UNI, ''We stand by that statement.'' However, Pawar refused to disclose his future plans. UNI
