Pakistan, China to sign accord on S-7 fighter

Pakistan and China will formally sign four agreements, including the much-awaited deal to develop indigenous Super-Seven (S-7) fighter aircraft, during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief's four-day visit to China, an official source said in Islamabad.

The aircraft has been designated FC-1 in China and is the successor of the cancelled Sabre-II project involving the two countries, the Pakistan Institute for Air Defence Studies revealed.

The source said ''the agreements will further enhance defence ties, besides co-operation in economic field between the two time-tested friends".

Defence Secretary, Lieutenant General (retd) Iftikhar Ali Khan and other senior defence officials would accompany the prime minister during his visit to China, beginning on June 28, the source added.
