Jawan among four killed in the Valley

A jawan was among four killed in the Kashmir Valley during the last 24 hours.

An official spokesman said that heavy shelling from across the Line of Control targeting Indian positions and civilian areas in Balandi and Maltidallan in Poonch and Jammu injured two women, identified as Parveen Akhtar and Puro Devi. Indian troops retaliated.

Heavy firing and shelling from across the Line of Control targeted at least 14 outlying outposts in R S Pura, Khour, Arnia, Ramgarh and Samba sectors of Jammu region.

In the Valley, militants fired upon a security force patrol at Rawalpora Shopian in Pulwama last evening. Security forces retaliated and three jawans were injured in the exchange of fire, of whom one later died.The militants managed to escape.

Three houses collapsed in blasts in Turipora on the outskirts of the Srinagar city last evening burying alive a boy, Mohammad Yaqoob Khan.

Militants shot dead one Nazir Ahmad Lone near his house in Palhalan in Baramulla last evening. Another injured in the militant firing, later died in the hospital.

The spokesman said forces captured four militants and recovered some arms and ammunition including five kg of RDX, two anti-personnel mines, seven grenades and five magazines in the Valley during overnight operations.
