Sharief calls on Chinese envoy

Amidst reports that Pakistan has been rattled by the tough stand taken by Marine General Anthony Zinni, commander-in-chief of the US central command, against Islamabad, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief had paid a visit to the Chinese ambassador's residence in Islamabad.

The visit came hours after his trip to the Gultari area near the Line of Control on Thursday, where he had reviewed the situation along with Pakistan army Chief, General Pervez Musharraf.

The dinner meeting assumes significance in view of the US' 'anti-Pakistan stand' and Sharief's proposed visit to Beijing which begins on Monday.

The Nation , considered a pro-establishment newspaper in Pakistan, claims that China has ''extended full support to Pakistan in this crisis situation. During the recent visit of Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz to China, the Chinese officials assured Pakistan of its 'deep and abiding interest in and support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and security of Pakistan'.''
