Army denies report of Gen Malik briefing BJP executiveChief of Army Staff General V P Malik has not participated in any briefing for the executive committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the army said today. A statement, issued on behalf of the army chief, said Gen Malik was not aware that such a briefing had been arranged for any party. Recent reports had gone as far as stating that the army chief or the three service chiefs themselves had conducted such briefings. ''At a time when the army is deeply involved in the ongoing operations such malicious and derogatory references to the chief of army staff, either out of ignorance or with malafide intentions promoted neither the crucial national effort nor the cause of truth. It would be in keeping with the tenets of good journalism to ensure the veracity of such a sensitive matter from the army before going to press,'' the statement said. UNI
