Intruders' administrative camp destroyedIndian troops today destroyed the main administrative camp of Pakistan-backed intruders in Kargil, while fierce hand-to-hand fighting continued to recapture strategically important point 5060 and point 5100 heights.Pakistani troops continued mortar and artillery shelling in Uri, Rampur, Poonch, Bhimbergali, Palanwala, Gurez, Machil and Titwal sectors. It was met with an adequate Indian response, official sources said. Sources said that six Pakistani intruders were killed or wounded when their main administrative camp in Kargil was destroyed by Indian shelling. A Defence Ministry spoksman told visiting journalists at Dras that a fierce gun battle was going on to regain control over strategic point 5060 and point 5100 heights. He said these heights fall in the route taken by intruders to reach the hills. He said once these two heights were recaptured, the Pak intruders occupying smaller heights would be isolated. He said though the terrain was very difficult, troops were marching ahead after inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. Official sources said the entire Totoling Ridge was now under the control of troops after the Pak intruders were dislodged from there on Sunday night. More then 50 Pakistani intruders, mostly Pak regulars, were killed in the battle. India lost about a dozen soldiers. Sources said in Dras sub-sector, troops have cleared three ridges from intruders after a fierce battle. However, intruders were still holding three other ridges in the sector. Sources said troops have yet to recapture eight strategic positions in Mushkoh valley, though Pakistani intruders have been pushed back from three very important ridges. Troops have also made gains in Batalik sub-sector and intruders were being pushed back. At some places troops have reached near the Line of Control, while in some other areas intruders are still about 1 km to 2.5 km inside the Indian territory. With the recapture of Totoling, the danger to Srinagar-Leh National Highway has been minimised. But the enemy can still fire artillery and mortar shells on the highway though with less effect. UNI
