India keeping G-8 posted on Kargil developmentsIndia has informed the Group of Eight industrialised nations about the developments in Kargil and expects it to understand that it is Pakistan's responsibility to take steps to restore normalcy on the Line of Control. "There is a growing realisation about Pakistan's armed intrusion. It is our expectation that the G-8, based on their recognition that the LoC has been violated from the Pakistan side, will understand that it is Pakistan's responsibility to take the right step to restore the status quo ante," an external affairs ministry spokesman said. The government, he said, is regularly updating the member nations of G-8 on the Kargil situation. He was replying to questions about his ministry's expectations from the G-8 summit being held later this week. Replying to another question, the spokesman rejected the contention of Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz that his government had no control over the infiltrators. "It is beyond doubt that the armed intrusion is entirely the handiwork of the Pakistani Army which was involved in its planning, preparation and implementation," he said. The intruders comprise army regulars as well as terrorists trained and sponsored by the Pakistani Army, he said. UNI
