Elections on time: AdvaniUnion Home Minister L K Advani today said that elections would be held as per schedule and that he foresaw no possibility of the Kargil conflict developing into a war. He said it was just a matter of time before the Pakistani offensive totally collapsed. Advani, who is in hyderabad, said in an interview that Pakistan miscalculated on two counts while undertaking its Kargil operations -- it did not anticipate a firm response from the Indian forces and also failed in its attempt to internationalise the Kashmir issue. Advani said Pakistan had been clearly told by its friends that it had committed a 'blatant wrong' in Kargil and should withdraw from across the Line of Control. As far as the elections are concerned, Advani said, the prime minister had made it clear that there was no difficulty in holding the polls. As home minister, he added, he could say it with authority that security would be available for the polls. UNI
