Close associate of Dara Singh nabbed

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Orissa police have arrested a close associate of Dara Singh, the prime accused in the killings of Australian missionary Graham Stewart Staines and his two sons at Manoharpur in Keonjhar district on January 22.

When contacted, Orissa Director General of Police Dillip Mahapatra confirmed that Dipu, a close associate of Dara Singh, had been nabbed.

The Central Bureau of Investigation which is probing the case, had announced a cash reward of Rs 100,000 for clues leading to Dipu's arrest.

DGP Mahapatra said Dipu had been interrogated by the police for the past two days and the police had got substantial information about Dara Singh, who has been absconding since the incident. While the CBI has announced a cash reward of Rs 500,000, the Orissa police have announced a cash award of Rs 100,000 to anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of Dara Singh.

DGP Mahapatra, however, declined to give details of the interrogation but said the police were hopeful to nab others involved in the crime.

The state police had arrested two close associates of Dara Singh from their hideout last month. Both of them carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 each on their head.

A special squad of the Mayurbhanj police arrested one Madhu Mahant, an associate of Dara Singh, during a raid on the house of a school teacher at Talpati village.

On May 11 the police achieved yet another breakthrough in the case when they arrested another accused Tuiram Hao from a coal depot at Panikoili in Jajpur district.
