Bad weather hits air operations in Kargil

E-Mail this report to a friend

Bad weather hampered air operations against Pakistani soldiers and mercenaries in the Kargil sector this morning, even as troops made significant gains in the Drass and Mushkoh valley during the past 24 hours.

Some missions were carried but others had to be abandoned because of the very poor weather conditions, an air force spokesman said here.

The Chief of Army Staff Gen V P Malik, with senior officers, has gone to Kargil to take stock of the situation.

The indian troops had captured some key positions close to Juber in Batalik sub-sector and had made inroads into infiltrators' positions in Drass and Mushkoh, army sources said.

Till now 232 Pakistan Army regulars have been killed in Kargil sector ever since the conflict began on May 8. The Indian casualities have been 66 killed, 217 injured and 14 missing.
