Propaganda nails Pak lies

Pakistan has unleashed a propaganda war.

Rejecting India's assertion that it was materially assisting the infiltrators in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad has claimed that the 'intruders were local Kashmiris'.

Last week, when Indian soldiers liquidated a dozen intruders, Pakistan said they were local Kashmiris. But informed sources said they were militants of Pakistan-backed Lashkar-i-Taiba who ferried their dead comrades across the border into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, sources added.

The Lahore-based Lashkar-i-Taiba is the militant wing of Markaz-i-Dawa-ul Arshad. It has been training and inciting young rural boys for jehad (holy war).

Information and Broadcasting Minister Mushahid Hussain, while spearheading this misinformation campaign, has asserted that those being killed near the Line of Control were local Kashmiris.

But the truth was revealed by Pakistan itself when British Broadcasting Corporation quoted the country's official news agency's report which denied that the Indian troops had pushed back most of the intruders. ''They (intruders) were well-entrenched,'' the report said.

Though Pakistan has been denying that it has provided any support to the 'rebels', Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief has called them 'freedom fighters', according to CNN.

Pakistan had launched a similar propaganda war when it sent armed intruders into Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 and 1965.
