Don't impose conditions for holding talks: Pakistan

Pakistan has called for unconditional 'direct' talks with India on their main dispute over Kashmir, news reports said today.

"If India will impose any pre-dialogue conditions, they should remember that Pakistan can also do so," Foreign Secretary Shamshad Ahmed said in an interview published in The News.

He said future talks between Islamabad and New Delhi will now mainly focus on the Kashmir dispute, which recently caused the worst standoff between the two nuclear-armed rival nations in over two decades.

"The peripheral matters shall remain peripheral, and we are only interested in the resolution of Kashmir before any peripheral matter is discussed with India," top Foreign Ministry officials said.
